Sidewalk construction at Ault Park

Sidewalks at Ault Park

Although the museum is now closed for the winter months, there has been a flurry of activity in Ault Park during the fall and winter of 2004/5  As part of the Job Creation Program, workers installed much needed sidewalks in the park.  The sidewalks were  completed by the end of October, 2004.  Many other projects were completed and some remain ongoing including renovation of the Stuart Home.

The Lost Villages Historical Society, in partnership with the Township of South Stormont, planted an oak tree at the Lost Villages Museum in Ault Park on Tuesday August 10, 2004. The oak tree, a “tree of reflection”, symbolizing strength and resilience, was planted to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the start of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project August 10, 1954.  Approximately 50 people attended the brief ceremony including local politicians, media, LVHS Board members, society members and employees of the Lost Villages Historical Society Administration Office.

Car Rally

The Lost Villages Historical Society hosted its first annual fundraising Car Rally on Saturday, October 16, 2004.  Ten teams participated in the event which began at Ault Park at 12:30 and concluded at the Anglican Christ Church in Long Sault.  During the afternoon, participants had to decipher clues to reveal the rally route, and had to perform activites and quizzes to obtain points. The rally route covered a large area, taking participants 3 miles east of Long Sault, and as far west as the Chrylser Marina. When all teams had completed the route, they received prizes, and refreshments were served.  Additional prizes were awarded to the teams with the highest dollar amount in pledges, and the highest point total earned during the rally. The team, “Thelma & Louise” (Lucie Desrosiers, Faye Emerton-Proulx) received prizes for having the highest dollar amount in pledges, and the team, “MPP” (Jim and Paulette Brownell) received prizes for having the most points at the end of the rally.

The Lost Villages Historical Society would like to thank our
many generous sponsors who donated prizes for the event.
